Who knew bald eagles like pizza too? A nature photographer recently captured a shot of a bald eagle grabbing pizza to go as it took flight into the Connecticut skies.
Doug Gemmell was visiting the Wethersfield Cove inlet on March 8, 2023, to snap some photographs of eagles using his Nikon D500 camera. “I want to get some action shots and well, that was some action shot,” Gemmell said. “It’s not quite the fish [picture] but it was an interesting photo, to say the least.”
When Gemmel first saw the eagle coming towards him, the bird began putting its legs down. “That’s a sign they are going to grab something,” Gemmell said. “I didn’t know it was a pizza until I got home.”
The photographer estimated that the eagle was around a year and a half old and swooped down and grabbed a slice of pepperoni pizza before being chased by crows that appeared to want the same piece.
Gemmell was able to grab a shot of the surprising moment and shared the images on Facebook. “It’s pretty unique. I don’t know if there’s any other pictures of eagles snatching a pizza,” Gemmell said.
