When you’re a bear, you can pretty much help yourself to anything without any serious ramifications. A hungry black bear got its hands on 60 cupcakes after breaking into the garage of a Connecticut bakery.
Workers at Taste by Spellbound in the town of Avon, Connecticut, were loading some baked treats into a van for delivery on May 24, 2023, when a black bear appeared. Bakery owner Miriam Stephens wrote on Instagram that she heard employee Maureen Williams “screaming bloody murder” and yelling that there was a bear in the garage.
Williams tried shouting at the animal to scare it away but it retreated and came back three times. The bear then charged at her, which caused her to back out of the garage and run off.
“She ran into the kitchen as fast as she could and slammed the door that goes into the loading area and held it tight. The bear then moved one of our fridges in front of the door. We all were stunned for a second trying to figure out what to do while she held the door shut,” Stephens wrote online.
Surveillance video also showed that bakery workers tried walking around the side of the business to try to scare the bear but then also running away after it scared them. Luckily, 911 was called and the bear managed to leave on its own accord.
While everyone involved was safe, unfortunately, 60 cupcakes and a bunch of coconut cake perished during the incident.
