Deputy Breaks Up Fight Between Hawk and Snake

Fights occur in the animal kingdom all the time but it’s very rare that humans need to get in the middle of the squabbles. A Florida sheriff’s deputy responded to a report that an injured hawk and a snake were getting into a tussle on a sidewalk.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Nick Aldous was the one who responded to a report of an injured hawk on a sidewalk near Gainesville, Florida. When he arrived, he was shocked to find that the hawk had a black snake wrapped around its body.

Body camera footage of the incident was posted on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page. The video was captioned: “A hawk caught a snake for its meal. The snake quickly turned the tables. Deputies never know what the next call will be. Deputy Aldous was able to separate these two and save the day!”

In the video, Aldous carefully uses gloves and towels to unwrap the snake from the hawk’s body. It looks like the two animals will have to find a meal elsewhere now. Luckily, Aldous confirmed that both the hawk and the snake were okay after being disentangled from one another.
