Cameron Ernest Belle, a 62-year-old man from Williamsport, was busted by the police for having methamphetamine and crack in his possession. Along with the drug charges, Belle was driving with a suspended license and vehicle registration.
Trouble started when Belle stopped at the intersection of Elmira Street and Hawthorne Avenue in front of the police officers. The cops grew suspicious since the intersection didn’t have a stop sign and they were aware of his suspended license.
Officer Andrew Stevens caught up to Belle and he appeared visibly impaired with his slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. A sobriety test confirmed the signs of impairment and the officer got more proof once he discovered a half ounce of methamphetamine in Belle’s sock along with a bag of crack. A search also revealed that he was hiding a crack pipe in his pant pockets.
Although Belle was caught red-handed, he acted clueless during the police investigation. Belle explained to the officer that the pants belonged to someone else and he was unaware of the drugs stored in his socks. Based on his story, he was just naively walking on a bumpy surface until the officers got a peek inside.
The drugs were shocking news to Belle too. Officer Stevens wasn’t sold on Belle’s story as there were too many warning bells and red flags flaring up in his head.
Belle turned down the blood test and he was taken into custody for a court proceeding. According to the court documents, he was “charged with possession with intent, possession of a controlled substance, and DUI second offense along with several summary traffic offenses.”
Belle is staying at the Lycoming County Prison instead of a $75,000 monetary bail.
