Hidden Gem Discovered in Delaware Mall

Today, most fast-food joints are opting for more modern architecture in their restaurants. Gone are the days of wooden furniture, pastel colors and fake plants, with many opting for sleeker designs in neutral shades. That is until a mall vendor discovered an intact Burger King restaurant estimated to be from 1987.

The relic is located on the first floor of the Concord Mall in Wilmington, Delaware. Since the restaurant closed in 2009, the space has only been accessible using a staff key.

In April 2022, a picture of the restaurant was posted before getting re-posted on Twitter on June 28, 2022. The post went viral leading the New Castle County Government to also share a video showing off the restaurant on Facebook.

“It’s kind of cool. When I first saw it, I was blown away myself. It is a surprise to me that it has taken off as quickly as it did,” said Tom Dahlke, General Manager of the Concord Mall.

Thanks to the viral tweet, management is looking to have the space available to rent and be occupied soon. They’re hoping that an eatery will be interested in the space since it’s laid out for one, with all the old equipment still available.
