Lost Cat Turns Up 10 Years Later

When an animal goes missing for an extended period of time, most lose hope that they’ll ever see their beloved pet ever again. Throw in a move to another country and the odds are even fewer. A cat that disappeared on New York’s Long Island found her way home 10 years after she went missing.

Richard Price said his family’s cat, Mimi, was being looked after at his sister-in-law’s home back in 2012 when the animal disappeared. The family tried searching around the Miller Place area but found no sign of Mimi anywhere.

A malnourished cat was recently brought to the town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter by a member of the public. The cat had badly matted fur and looked like it had been roaming around the streets for a while. “It felt like a shield of armor, that’s how bad she was matted,” supervisor Linda Klampfl said.

The cat was given a must-needed bath and scanned for a microchip to identify an hour. Price, who now lives in Spain, was contacted about the missing feline after so long. “If only she could talk and tell us what she’s been through,” Price said.

Mimi is spending the next few weeks in the care of a local relative before he and his wife plan to visit Long Island in January 2023 to bring the feline to her new home in Europe.
