One lucky lottery winner was in for quite the surprise after a $600 prize turned out to actually be worth over a thousand times more.

Joshua Locklear bought a $10 50X The Cash Fast Play ticket at Pembroke Mini Mart in North Carolina when he realized the jackpot total had reached $585,949.

After playing, the 32-year-old determined he had won $600 and headed to the state’s lottery headquarters in Raleigh to collect his prize. Locklear was completely shocked to learn he was the one to actually win the near $600,000 jackpot by North Carolina Education Lottery officials.

“When I heard, I was like, ‘There’s no possible way I actually hit the jackpot.’ I couldn’t believe it,” Locklear said.

Anyone would have a checklist of what they’d like to purchase after winning that much money. On Locklear’s list, he plans to buy a house and a new car. He said he also wants to give back to the community in some way.

“I really wasn’t expecting that, that’s for sure. It really did come at the right time though,” Locklear said.

In total, Locklear took home $416,085 after taxes when he picked up his ticket. According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, the odds of winning a Fast Play jackpot are 1 in 320,000.
