Man Arrested After Smoking Marijuana Near K9 Unit

When smoking pot, it’s best to be aware of your surroundings beforehand. A man who decided to light up ended up doing so near a K9 unit that detected drugs in the nearby area.

Deputy Donald Warney and K9 Zion were sitting in the parking lot of Waffle House in Fayetteville, Georgia, when K9 Zion indicated he detected drugs nearby. When Warney exited his patrol vehicle, he could also smell marijuana.

Warney noticed that a Chevrolet Tahoe in the parking lot was giving off a strong odor of marijuana. As the officer approached the Tahoe, the driver opened the door and exited the vehicle on his own merit.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the driver admitted to Warney that he was recently smoking marijuana and that he was dealing with a pending distribution charge for marijuana. After searching the vehicle, the officer recovered 144 grams of marijuana in 10 plastic bags and the unnamed driver was arrested.
