Man Arrested for Transforming Toyota Into a Ferrari

Everyone has aspirations of reaching the high life one day but only a select few actually hit that goal. One dream of many is to have enough money to buy a Ferrari. Instead of winning the lottery, a man created his own Ferrari on a budget by transforming his Toyota into a sports car.

Italy’s Guardia di Finanza had to make an unusual seizure during what was meant to be a routine check in the town of Asti. A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with forgery and breach of trademarks after it was discovered that his red Ferrari F430 was actually just a modified Toyota MR Coupé.

When police checked out the red “Ferrari,” it had many of the iconic elements of the F430 but there was something off about it. Officers called in a team of experts to inspect the vehicle who confirmed that the car was actually an altered version of a Toyota MR Coupé.

Someone put many hours into creating the dupe as both the exterior and the interior of the car were closely modeled after that of the F430 Ferrari built between 2004 and 2009 at Maranello. According to the experts who confirmed the forgery, the car even featured original Ferrari parts and accessories. This made it even more difficult to notice that it was actually a Toyota.

The car was seized and the owner was reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Asti for using registered trademarks without authorization from the holder.
