Man Calls 911 Over Sour Patch Kids Candy

There’s nothing that takes you back to childhood more than eating a handful of sour candy. A certain type of sour treat got a Florida man in some trouble when he was arrested for calling 911.

According to police, a “heavily intoxicated” man called 911 to report that his girlfriend “wished to eat Sour Patch Kids.” It was around 11:45 p.m. when Joshua Larson gave the police a call.

When officers arrived at the 37-year-old’s residence in Madeira Beach, Larson was questioned by a sheriff’s deputy. Apparently, he just “smiled and walked away” from police.

Obviously, this didn’t sit well with officers and dialing 911 is no joke. Larson allegedly struggled with deputies as they sought to place him in handcuffs. According to the arrest affidavit, an “electronic control weapon” was eventually used to take Larson into custody.

Larson was charged with misuse of the 911 system and obstruction. He was booked into the county jail and released on his own recognizance. As part of his release conditions, Larson has been ordered by a judge to not consume alcohol and has been outfitted with an alcohol monitoring device to track his consumption.

This isn’t the first time Larson has been arrested. In November 2021, he was arrested for allegedly shoving his girlfriend and knocking her phone from her hand during an altercation. Prosecutors declined to press charges.

Maybe next time, Larson will think about calling 911 with an actual emergency. Wanting sour candy just doesn’t cut it.
