Man Rehomed Girlfriend’s Kittens Without Her Final Goodbye

For a young lady, she faced a dilemma: it was between the well-being of her live-in boyfriend with severe cat allergies or saving a litter of abandoned kittens. She ended up going with the kittens, leaving the boyfriend to suck it up. In her line of thinking, he’ll survive, but sadly, roadkill isn’t an uncommon occurrence.

Since the boyfriend’s struggles weren’t met with compassion by the cat lover, he turned to Reddit to get other users’ input on his distressful situation. The couple are living together in the man’s house and the girlfriend doesn’t pay any rent.

His girlfriend of two years brought six kittens to the home after they were abandoned on the road. Initially, the man was hesitant to share his living space with the animals since he suffers from a “severe cat allergy” but he budged to allow it temporarily.

“She kept asking and saying she had no idea if they’d be okay without her and I finally relented, as I’m not some heartless jerk,” the man wrote. “I said fine, let them in, under the conditions that she started adopting them out at eight weeks, they stayed in the guest bedroom/bathroom, and I did not have to look after them except for emergencies.”

Four months later, the cats haven’t been picked up by other families.

“On top of that, she lets them roam the house and tried to get me to clean the cat box for them the other day because she didn’t feel like it. It’s f*****g with my allergies and I keep having to open windows, stay in my room, and constantly wash stuff,” the man ranted.

He added: “I started telling her three weeks ago that if she didn’t put them up for adoption, I would and she’d usually ignore me. Finally, I made a post two days ago on Facebook and told her about it. She said alright, and I thought that was that.

“A couple of people responded, wanting the cats, so I set up a time yesterday during my lunch break and told her they were going. She said alright again.”

The woman was pissed when she came home to no fur babies since a final farewell meant everything to her. “The people came and four of the cats went to new homes. She got back, saw the cats were gone and flipped her s**t. I was frankly stunned because I told her this was happening and I told her there was a post-up and people coming to look at them,” the man said.

“But she’s angry because I didn’t let her say goodbye and other stuff. I think I gave her a full two months of goodbye time.”

Reddit users expressed support for the man since he was clear with his communication and it was the girlfriend who was pushing the boundaries. One person replied: “I know from a personal standpoint if I was in your girlfriend’s position I would be just as upset in the moment but you are very much NTA [not the a*****e] in this situation.

“It was your home, you gave her the conditions that the kittens had to go, they were affected your health, and you went out of your way to find good homes for them.”

Another added: “NTA, and I say this as a cat lover. Even though you have bad allergies, you allowed her to bring the cats into YOUR house, and then instead of dumping them at a shelter, you let them stay and then found them good homes. What more does she want?”

She wants some cuddles for closure. The man, however, might seek another form of closure after this experience.
