Man Sets Church Ablaze Because of Wife’s Donations

Times are tough right now and saving as much money as possible is on a lot of people’s minds. Frustrated over watching his family’s money donated to a local church, a man decided to take matters into his own hands.

A fire broke out at the Church of St. Basil the Great in the village of Pargolovo, in Russia’s Saint Petersburg district. The fire quickly engulfed the building and would’ve burned it to the ground if it wasn’t for the parishioners who put the fire out themselves. The damages were still tremendous and couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Many believed that the fire was caused by a short circuit due to faulty electrical wiring. Turns out, it was just a local man that was fed up with his wife’s donations to the church. The 36-year-old man was constantly in a battle with his wife who often volunteered at the church. Deciding to end the spending once and for all, the father-of-four took a canister of gasoline, splashed the walls with fuel and set the building ablaze.

“He worked 24/7, they have four children and his wife works at the church. Everything he earned, she brought to the temple. Because of this, they had a conflict. He realized that he would either do something to his wife or burn the temple,” according to a news outlet.

The man never denied his guilt to police and even asked to be detained for the incident. The judge involved sent him home due to his lack of criminal record and four children to take care of until sentencing is passed in his case.

It seems like the man’s plan may have backfired, considering the church will likely need more donations to fix the serious damage done to the outside of the church. Thankfully, the interior was largely unaffected by the blaze.
