Message in a Bottle Discovered 39 Years Later

Finding a message in a bottle is an interesting read for those who are curious about the story behind the handwritten note. A Florida couple went the extra mile when they discovered a message in a bottle on the shore of a river. They didn’t just read it and toss it back into the river. The couple was actually able to locate the Texas man who wrote the message and the note dates back 39 years.

Sheila and Teben Pyles were part of a neighborhood clean-up crew in South Jacksonville when they came across an old bottle on the shore of the St. Johns River. The bottle said “look inside” and they followed the direction to get to the content inside the bottle.

“If you are the person that found this bottle, please send a note to Ron Clark,” the message said.

The note had an address in Texas but considering its age, they didn’t think it would still be accurate decades later. People change residences and the odds were slim to find Ron Clark at that address.

However, they didn’t give up. After months of digital stalking, Ron Clarks was found but he wasn’t the one who wrote the message. The couple then found a man with the same name who lived in Mebane, North Carolina and used to reside in Texas.

Sheila shared photos of the bottle and the message to a Mebane community group on Facebook to reach the correct recipient of the message. Their search ended on a good note when they found the right person. Ron Clark who lives in Mebane turned out to be Ron Clark Sr. and it was his son, Ron Clark Jr. who wrote the message while staying with his grandparents in Florida 39 years earlier.

The couple is going to send the message in a bottle back to the son, who still lives in Texas. Does the son still care to see a note from his younger days? For the sake of the couple who went through all that effort, let’s hope it doesn’t just get recycled.
