Missing Ring Returned After 53 Years

After an item goes missing for a lengthy period of time, it’s easy to see why it could’ve been forgotten. That’s what happened to one woman when her high school class ring was returned to her after 53 years.

Dana Scott Laughlin was swimming in Lake Berryessa in California shortly after her high school graduation in 1969 when her ring fell off her finger and sank to the bottom of the lake. The ring was never to be seen again, until now.

It was Laughlin’s son that received a message from a couple who said they found the ring while they were fishing. They were trying to identify the owner of the ring and only had the initials inscribed and the name of the school. After a bit of research, the couple reached out and their suspicions were confirmed when Laughlin identified the ring through photos.

“I just said I was so grateful, and I couldn’t believe that she had found the ring after so many years. I guess it was meant to be. My husband was like in a state of shock,” Laughlin told WPMI-TV.

Laughlin now lives in Foley, Alabama, where the ring is on its way to her via UPS.
