Officers Follow Trail of Blood to Tiger Cub

People who often seek out exotic pets tend to be the ones who get in trouble the most. Officers responded to a shooting in New Mexico, which ended up leading them to find a tiger cub inside a residence.

Albuquerque Police said officers were called about a shooting in the southeastern portion of the city. Upon arrival, they found someone shot in the leg outside a business, which investigators later determined had been a stray bullet.

While responding to the call, officers heard an additional gunshot from a nearby mobile home. After following the noise, they discovered Kevin Gerardo Vargas Mercado armed with a semiautomatic handgun with an extended magazine. Marcado was taken into custody.

On this wild goose chase, a trail of blood led to another trailer in the area. No people were inside the home but the authorities did find a Bengal tiger cub sitting inside a dog crate. Officers obtained a search warrant in order to retrieve the tiger.

The animal is currently in custody with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. No other details have been released regarding the discovery of the tiger.
