Pizza is a comfort food where most of the ingredients can be customized according to taste and preferences. A standard ingredient that is mandatory to create the dish is the dough for the crust. A pizza without a crust is incomplete.
Papa John’s introduced their new pizza that omits the essential piece — the crust. Pizza lovers feel disappointed and deceived by the strange creation. What sparked the creativity in the kitchen?
Scott Rodriguez, the chain’s senior vice president of strategy and product innovation, said: “Our signature crust continues to be a beloved favorite but we know that sometimes customers crave something different. We want them to know we are committed to delivering on all of those cravings through our menu.”
Their innovation is similar to when parents disguise veggies on your plate as a child and claim the dinner was something that it’s not. Papa John’s kept the toppings without the round crust to bring the dish together. When vegetables, meats, and cheese are tossed into a bowl, that’s a salad. They are not fooling anyone with an inaccurate label for the food item.
A Twitter user commented: “A good crust is what makes pizza good. Papa John’s crust is gross, but the solution wasn’t to remove it completely.”
Another person tweeted: “Nobody ever lost excitement about pizza. And if they did, it wasn’t solved by a deconstructed crustless pizza in a bowl. It was solved by going anywhere other than Papa John’s.”
Papa John’s may trick people into getting their five servings of vegetables but the customers aren’t happy. Load up the carbs as they want to savor the slow poison of delicious processed food.
