With summer in full swing, who wouldn’t want to sit down after a long day to suck on a ketchup-flavored popsicle?
The condiment brand French’s is debuting their “Frenchsicle,” a new limited-edition ketchup-flavored popsicle to celebrate the first week of summer. The sweet and savory treat is a Canadian exclusive to promote their ketchup, made from 100 percent Canadian tomatoes.
The frozen treats are made in collaboration with Happy Pops, a local Canadian business specializing in all-natural ice pops made from real fruit and sweetened with organic cane sugar. They will be available at pop-up locations in Vancouver, BC, Toronto, ON and Leamington, ON, until June 24, 2022.
“I love creating innovative treats that appeal to Canada’s diverse tastes. I started Happy Pops to bring all-natural, handcrafted flavour to Canadians, so French’s locally-grown ketchup is a perfect pairing. I can’t wait for people to try this condiment-turned-popsicle,” said Happy Pops founder Leila Keshavjee.
In Canada, ketchup is a popular summer flavor with most enjoying the condiment with fries and BBQ dishes like hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages.
“This year we’re bringing the fun back to summer with the Frenchsicle. It’s exciting to celebrate local food and flavour; from the roots of the Frenchsicle, made with 100 percent Canadian tomatoes, to our Happy Pops partnership,” said Trevor Squires, Country Manager, for McCormick & Company, Canada.
French’s has also agreed to donate two meals to Food Banks Canada for every Frenchsicle given away. The partnership between the two began in 2015, helping to address food insecurity in Canada.
If you’re not able to get down to one of the pop-up shops for a free Frenchsicle, no worries. French’s released their Frenchsicle recipe so anyone can make their own frozen treat with a few simple ingredients.
