While the housing market in most places these days is through the roof, there is always the option to live off the land on your very own island. An isolated private island off the coast of Scotland is listed for sale with an asking price of around $188,000.
Barlocco Island is a 25-acre uninhabited island that is located nearly six miles from the nearest town, Gatehouse of Fleet. The island, listed online by the Galbraith Group, contains a flood pond to support the local wildlife during the winter months. The listing also states that Barlocco Island is part of the Borgue Coast Site of Special Scientific Interest, meaning its natural areas are protected by the British government.
Galbraith Group said the island can be reached on foot during low tide but that a boat would be required for anyone looking to visit during high tide.
For those looking to set up their home, no buildings or other services come included. Listing agent David Corrie said any buyer seeking to bring power to the island would be unable to connect to any energy grid. Luckily, installing solar panels or other off-grid technologies is still an option.
“There’s still a very romantic sentiment attached to owning your very own Scottish private island, where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some peace and tranquillity in the most beautiful scenery around,” Aaron Edgar of Galbraith said.
