Soccer Club Demotes Player for ‘Continuous Farting’ in the Dressing Room

The Brazilian soccer player, Marcelo, was originally booted from his team in August 2021, but the reason why wasn’t made public until now. And it’s quite smelly.

The French Soccer club, Lyon, demoted fullback Marcelo from its senior team to the reserve team for constantly farting and laughing in the dressing room.

The 34-year-old was accused of “continuous farting” in front of the team’s manager and sporting director. Probably not the best to be farting in front of the people that determine what team you play for.

The unprofessionalism didn’t stop there. During a speech the team captain, Leo Dubois, made following an early season loss, it was reported that Marcelo laughed and didn’t take it seriously.

Marcelo played in just two Ligue 1 matches for Lyon in August 2021, before he was dropped to the reserve team later that month. The team cut ties with him in January 2022 and he signed with Bordeaux. Currently, he has appeared in 10 games for Bordeaux.

The smell seems to have lingered with Marcelo. Since joining Bordeaux, they have lost eight of the 10 games that Marcelo has played in and tied the other two. They are also at the bottom of the Ligue 1 standings and at risk of being relegated to Ligue 2.
