It’s not every day that the Stanley Cup gets delivered right to your doorstep. A Denver couple received an epic surprise when the National Hockey League’s trophy mistakenly arrived at their house.
Kit Karbler opened his door to find the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Keeper of the Cup, Philip Pritchard, who was looking for Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog. Landeskog lives in the neighborhood which explains the mix-up.
Pritchard was kind enough to let Karbler and his husband see and hold the Stanley Cup while in their driveway.
“I couldn’t believe it! All my thoughts were wide open because how could that be? Because I knew that we had Avalanche players that lived in the neighborhood but I didn’t know how close and specific and to get the wrong address would be easy for them,” Karbler said.
He added: “It looks like a contractor or something. I didn’t know. And a fella comes to the door. He’s got long, kind of gray hair, parted and he’s very friendly… And he comes right in and they’re looking, the truck is backed up and they’re looking to bring in the trophy.”
Karbler wasn’t able to get many pictures because it was the last thing on his mind. Regardless, he was still appreciative of the experience since the special delivery was such a surprise.
The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games to win the Stanley Cup.
