Kitschy statues are a great way to drum up public interest at a restaurant. If you have a statue of a hot dog at your business and more and more families might turn out for a meal just to see the figure. The owner of a restaurant in West Virginia finally has his coveted hot dog statue back.
Dairy Winkle in Campbells Creek, West Virginia, is known for its “Wienerman” statue. The figure depicts a hot dog licking its lips and holding a bottle of mustard while pouring a bottle of ketchup on its head. Pretty on the nose for a place known for its all-beef hot dogs.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said that the hot dog statue was stolen from the restaurant during a break-in sometime after the fire that occurred on January 11, 2023. A tip led deputies to a location where they found the statue undamaged. It was returned to restaurant owner Kerry Ellison who is thankful to have it back.
Investigators have yet to identify a suspect and are seeking more information about the theft.
Ellison hopes to reopen the restaurant later this year.
