Pets will get into all sorts of trouble when they’re alone. A curious cat from South Carolina was brought to an animal hospital after she consumed 38 hair ties.
Veterinary surgeons said the ailing animal was brought to the Charleston Animal Society by a member of the public who reported the feline had been left outside a home when the former residents moved out of state.
Carers noticed that the cat, named Juliet, was becoming unusually lethargic and stopped eating altogether after a couple of weeks. A radiograph discovered she had an unusual blockage in her stomach that ended up being 38 hair ties that were swallowed by the cat.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Leigh Jamison, associate director of veterinary care for the Charleston Animal Society, said.
Juliet is now recovering but the blockage led to a liver condition that is now being treated as well. “We have to make sure that as we feed her, we keep her electrolytes in balance,” Jamison said.
