There’s finding loose change in between your couch cushions and then there’s this.
A California woman received an unexpected gift after scoring a free sofa for her new place. Vicky Umodu was browsing through Craigslist when she stumbled upon the free listing.
“I scrolled down and saw free items. So, I clicked on it, and the first thing I came up with was this family that wanted to give a sofa, and everything in their bedroom set… I said, ‘Maybe it’s a gimmick,’ so I called them,” she said.
The family confirmed they were giving away the furniture from a loved one that had recently passed, along with completely liquidating the entire home. This was a jackpot for Umodu as she had just moved into her new house and didn’t have any furniture.
Once she was able to get the furniture back to her house, Umodu noticed something off about one of the couch cushions. At first, she thought it was a heating pad stuck inside because of its shape. Instead, after she unzipped the cushion, she found several envelopes filled with $36,000 in cash.
Umodu was never tempted to keep the discovered treasure. She called the family to let them know about the money. The family informed her that they also found money hidden throughout the property but only were able to find a few hundred dollars.
Out of appreciation, the family provided Umodu with $2,200 and insisted that they buy her a new refrigerator.
A wad of cash and a new refrigerator doesn’t sound all that bad just for picking up some free furniture.
