A woman decided to open her heart and her purse strings by spending over $4,500 to stuff her dead cat after it was killed by a car.
In September 2021, Harriet Peace’s cat was hit by a car and unfortunately died as a result of the incident. Tango was a beloved pet and Peace realized she didn’t want to go down the traditional route by having the pet buried or cremated. After looking around online, she found exactly what she was looking for.
“When someone mentioned taxidermy it sounded like the perfect way for him to be with me forever,” Peace said.
Spending around $4,800 later, Tango was memorialized by being stuffed and would now a part of Peace’s life for the long run. The 28-year-old explained that she couldn’t bring herself to have poor little Tango cremated.
Despite having a rather gruesome death, Peace said Tango looked in relatively good condition. Committing to the idea of stuffing the pet, Peace had to put the cat’s body in the freezer in order to prepare him for the procedure.
In order to be stuffed correctly, Tango and Peace traveled to London to visit the specialist Get Stuffed. To preserve the cat properly, several oils and chemicals had to be used and the whole process took seven months to be completed.
Peace requested that Tango be preserved in a position which made him look like he was asleep. “I couldn’t believe it. His fur and everything — it was amazing. He is so realistic.
“After losing my best friend it’s the best gift anyone could give me,” Peace said.
