Chihuahua Found Running Loose on New York Highway

Chihuahuas are small enough dogs as it is so spotting them running on a highway is a difficult task. A chihuahua that had escaped from his owner’s yard brought traffic to a crawl on a New York highway when it was seen running along the road.

Tammy Richardson said her dog, Bean, burrowed under a fence when he was startled by another dog and took off running. He somehow ended up on the Staten Island Expressway, a dangerous spot to be for such a small pup.

Fortunately, around 20 cars driving on the highway slowed down in order to make a safe route for Bean. Some drivers even got out of their cars to try to catch the animal.

“I jumped out and chased, I didn’t expect that dog could be so fast,” Ella Wolskawoja, one of many people who got out to pursue the canine, said.

Kaitlyn McGinley also pulled her car over when she spotted Wolskawoja on the road. “I was like, ‘Why is this woman running on the highway?'” she said. “The dog ran under my car and hid under my tire. Someone gave me a bag, and I scooped him up and put him in the car.”

Bean was later reunited with his owner, Richardson, safe and sound.
