The Plural Form of Cheez-It Might Catch You By Surprise

Being grammatically correct can get people’s heads spinning as they pick sides on what makes the most sense. A lot of Twitter users have been stuck in a debate of trying to decide the plural form of “Cheez-It” and it took a rep from the company to clear up the doubts.

The debate spurred up after Oklahoma played Florida State in the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando, Florida, and an important game sponsor is “Cheez-It.” Tension arose when a rep for the snack cracker corrected people that it is improper to refer to them as “Cheez-Its” in their plural form.

Carter Karels, a writer for Florida State, tweeted the finding stating that “one Cheez-It is a Cheez-It” while “two or more of the Cheez-It are called ‘Cheez-It crackers,’ not Cheez-Its.”

If you’ve been saying it wrong this entire time, you might not be the only one.

A commentator pointed out: “I understand the logic and perhaps the marketing. However… they are overlooking the ubiquitous power of the name and its popular verbiage. I present — Kleenex tissues. We either say Kleenex or tissue. We don’t say hand me a Kleenex tissue. They should welcome their status.”

While others aren’t convinced and will still continue going the wrong way: “Sorry they are Cheez-Its forever.”

Don’t bother getting salty. It’s just crackers.
