Police Officer Arrested for Firing Shots Into Air

As law enforcement officers, police should know better when it comes to following the rules. A Southern California police officer got a little too rowdy with friends, which led to him being arrested for firing his gun into the air.

San Bernardino Police Officer Fidel Ocampo-Rodarte was off-duty enjoying a night out when he decided to take out his gun and fire it into the air several times in a tavern’s parking lot after drinking with his friends. The incident occurred at around 2 a.m. on November 6, 2022.

Authorities released a tweet about the situation, claiming that after shooting the gun, Ocampo-Rodarte fled the tavern located in Blue Jay, California. The shooting was captured on surveillance cameras in the area.

It wasn’t until hours later that the off-duty police officer turned himself in. Ocampo-Rodarte was arrested on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm and placed on administrative leave. During a search warrant, authorities also found multiple firearms at his home.

“The conduct is not something that is fitting of a San Bernardino police officer, or any officer for that matter,” San Bernardino Police Chief Darren Goodman said.
