Soccer Team Travels 8,000 Miles to Lose Game 12-0

Soccer can be a fun sport to watch but some games can be brutally lopsided. A soccer team from Martinique had to travel 8,000 miles to play a game only to lose it 12-0.

Golden Lion FC from the island nation of Martinique are the reigning champions in the country. Since they had the honor of being champions, they had to travel from the eastern Caribbean Sea to Lille, a city in the northern part of France, to play in the French Cup.

Lille Olympique Sporting Club is from Ligue 1, the French first division, meaning they were tough competition to start against in the round of 64. Not only that, but Golden Lion FC had to make an 8,000-mile round-trip to even get to the stadium they were playing in.

Unfortunately, there was no fairytale upset to write about as the team from Martinique was mauled 12-0. By the half, they had conceded seven goals, including four in nine minutes towards the end of play.

Jonathan David and Edon Zhegrova both scored hat-tricks in a record win for the hosts at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Lille had 37 shots on goal compared to Golden Lion’s one measly shot.
