TSA Discovers Handgun Found Inside Raw Chicken

The Transportation Security Administration has discovered plenty of strange items in people’s luggage in the past but this one might just be the weirdest. Security officers reported finding a handgun inside a raw chicken in a traveler’s luggage.

The TSA posted images of the gun and poultry mix on its Instagram account. The weapon was recovered from the inside of a chicken at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in South Florida.

The caption for the post was filled with puns and read: “Take for instance this ‘hen you believe it?’ find at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. We hate to beak it to you here but stuffing a firearm in your holiday bird for travel is just a baste of time. This idea wasn’t even half-baked; it was raw, greasy, and obviously unsupervised. The only roast happening here is this poor packing choice!”

They added: “Feather you like it or not, there are rules for traveling with guns and ammunition. So don’t wing it; roost over the proper packaging info through the link in our bio.”

The post did not specify if any arrests were made or what the passenger’s name was. Regardless, the person was clearly trying to hide the handgun in the chicken as they were both wrapped in plastic bags.

According to the TSA, fresh meats, seafood and other non-liquid food items are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags, as long as they are packed in ice to ensure the items are preserved correctly. Unloaded firearms are only permitted in checked bags and must be declared beforehand.
