Dentist Sued for Performing Four Root Canals, Eight Crowns, 20 Fillings in One Visit

Going to the dentist is a fear that many people have. Welcome to your worst nightmare as a Minnesota woman is now suing her dentist after he allegedly performed multiple dental surgeries during one appointment and lied about how much anesthesia he used.

Kathleen Wilson is accusing the way Dr. Kevin Molldrem attempted to treat her rare case of tooth decay in July 2020 as unsuccessful. She alleged in a civil suit in Minnesota that the amount of work he did was “impossible” to be successful in one visit.

According to the suit, Molldrem allegedly performed four root canals and gave her eight dental crowns and 20 fillings in one appointment. He also used too much anesthesia and faked her medical records to avoid liability.

The dentist’s poor work left Wilson in extreme pain, embarrassed and with the problem of her tooth decay still there. Wilson required multiple appointments with other dentists to fix the defendant’s alleged hack job.

Wilson had a consultation on July 7, 2020, with Molldrem and according to Florida dentist and professor Dr. Avrum Goldtein, Molldrem’s diagnosis of Wilson’s mouth was correct but his treatment overall was poor.

“Katie required a slow, thoughtful, careful and measured response to her disease,” Goldstein wrote of the nearly six-hour appointment. “Trying to fill every hole in every tooth in her mouth in one visit is not only the antithesis of what was indicated, it is not humanely possible to achieve in an effective or constructive manner.”

Goldstein also agreed that Molldrem falsified the amount of anesthesia given to Wilson. The maximum recommended dosage for a long appointment is 490mg but Molldrem reportedly gave Wilson 960mg.

Molldrem was served with a summons on December 20, 2023, with Wilson suing for at least $50,000 in damages.
