African Serval on the Loose

When pets are reported as missing, usually it’s the standard dog or cat that a family is hoping to find. In this instance, an African serval remains on the loose in British Columbia.

The lost pets charity Reuniting Owners with Animals Missing, otherwise known as ROAM, confirmed that a two-year-old serval named Ophelia has gone missing from her owners in the West Coast Road area of Sooke, British Columbia, Canada.

According to the charity’s website, Ophelia is “shy and not very friendly with strangers.” The cat also likes food and play but anyone who spots the animal is urged to call ROAM or the local authorities for assistance.

The cat is the fourth serval to be reported on the loose in the area over the last few months as more and more people have started having them as house pets. Two previously escaped from an outdoor enclosure in Nanaimo and one escaped from its owner’s home in Brentwood Bay. All three animals were later captured and returned safely.
