British Farmers Use Axe Body Spray to Prevent Rams From Fighting

Who knew that a little body spray could stop some bruting rams? A British sheep farmer was shocked that using Axe body spray was able to curb the aggression of her rams.

Sam Bryce is a sheep farmer on the Norfolk-Suffolk border in England. She said that other farmers on the Facebook group Ladies Who Lamb told her that the body spray masks the hormones that cause rams to become aggressive toward one another.

Bryce decided to start using the heavily perfumed body spray, in the scent Africa, on the animals and said there was “no argy-bargy, no rowing.” She also added that using body spray to calm rams has become a growing practice.

“There are several of us doing it right across the country and I think even the world now,” Bryce said.

Other sheep farmers said that the scent can also be used to convince mother sheep to adopt abandoned lambs. Shepherdess Caitlin Jenkins said ewes identify their babies by smell and using the body spray confuses them into thinking the lambs belong to them.

“I always go for Lynx Africa because it has a very distinctive strong smell,” Jenkins said. “The ones that don’t smell as strong have less chance of working.”
