Alligator Floats Along Lazy River

The end of summer means waterparks have to close up shop after another successful season. Instead of letting water go to waste, an Illinois water park marked the end of summer by allowing one last visitor to float along their lazy river.

The Scovill Zoo brought G the alligator to Splash Cove in Decatur so he could enjoy a soothing trip down the park’s lazy river. A video posted to Facebook by the Scovill Zoo shows the 39-year-old alligator floating down the calming river and crawling along the bottom of the water.

“He loved freshening up on his swimming skills, floating in the river current, and let us know that he enjoyed his trip to the lazy river by refusing to leave,” the post read.

“G finally decided to come out and then basked in the sun on the concrete deck for a few minutes before safely venturing back to his home at Scovill Zoo.”

Splash Cove officially closed to human visitors a few weeks ago, which gave the chlorine enough time to naturally burn off, making the water safe for G to take a swim in. Zoo officials are now hoping to make this lazy river visit an annual event for the reptile to enjoy.
