There’s nothing like eating pumpkins to get into the Halloween spirit. The alligators at Gatorland in Florida were treated to a special treat of pumpkins to celebrate the holiday and the reopening of the park.
Gatorland, located in Orlando, was hit by Hurricane Ian back in September 2022. The park wanted to commemorate the re-opening while still tying in the spooky holiday and thought that getting the alligators to chomp down on the nutritious vegetable was the perfect idea.
Videos posted on Instagram show the resident alligators using their powerful jaws to bite their way through the pumpkins. “Halloween is coming and the pumpkin crunching has begun,” the park said in one of the captions.
It’s not just the alligators that get to have all the fun. The park also shared a video showing other animals, including capybaras, birds and wild cats, snacking on pumpkins. Officials from Gatorland said that pumpkins provide enrichment, as well as snacks for the animals.
