Police officers are typically expected to bring a sense of relief and heroism to the victims of a robbery. In a case in Argentina, law enforcement mimicked the criminals instead of catching them.
A travel agency in Buenos Aires was caught in a series of robberies with two theft incidents in one day. The first robbery took place with robbers and the second one was done by police officers who got their roles mixed up.
Two armed robbers invaded the travel agency and assaulted the employees. They then escaped the area with hundreds of thousands of pesos. The victims informed the police, and rather than saving the day, they ended up adding to their distress.
After ten minutes, three police officers arrived at the office. After an investigation with the staff, they ran after the crooks. One of the agency’s employees realized that a black bag containing about 4 million pesos that the robbers had missed was suddenly nowhere to be found.
The staff were fairly certain that the bag was there when the cops were conducting their investigation. When doubt started creeping in, they played the CCTV footage and it showed one of the police officers leaving the agency with the bag under their arm.
The police weren’t doing their job by taking the bag as evidence, they had other plans. The police station informed the staff that there were no records of a money bag. The police finished the job that the robbers failed to complete.
In the video, footage captured the three officers taking the stairs down from the seventh-floor travel agency, which prompted more suspicions. “They saw that there were cameras in the elevator and for that reason, they preferred to avoid them but they did not take into account those in the corridors,” a source said.
The three officers were later arrested and the black money was discovered in one of the suspect’s homes. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the officers are guilty of straying away from their responsibilities.
