Couple Gets Revenge on Airbnb Host With Extreme Water Use

A Chinese couple was annoyed their Airbnb host refused to cancel the booking at a villa so they intentionally became a nuisance by using over 120 tons of water. As part of their revenge plan, they also used thousands of dollars worth of gas, electricity and other utilities.

The guests took out their rage by wasting the available resources to get back at the Airbnb owner. They overused the water, electricity and gas during their stay. The couple were ticked off because they booked a villa in Seoul on Airbnb for 25 days unaware that the villa is located in South Korea.

When they made their way to the villa, the couple realized the place was in the outer suburbs. They reached out to the Airbnb host requesting a refund due to the inconvenient location. The owner wasn’t able to accommodate the request, stating the booking was already confirmed and paid.

The couple reluctantly accepted the stay to avoid losing their money but they were determined to make the host pay for the firm stance. They were plotting to spike up the owner’s utility bills so the owner is left with more expenses than profits.

Initially, the villa owner didn’t catch onto anything unusual and the couple only questioned the owner if there were any cameras on the property. During their 25-day booking, they only stopped by the villa for about five minutes every three to four days.

The owner was in for a rude awakening when the gas company contacted him about the increase in use. By the time he picked up on the difference, the guests had already left South Korea.

“They used 120 tons of water in five days,” the host said. It was later revealed that the couple had used enough water for eight adults to use for two months.

Apart from the gas and water bills, the Airbnb host also had to pay $728 in other miscellaneous expenses. Their stay ended up costing him $1,570.

Frustrated by the losses, the owner contacted Airbnb support about the problem, however, the company wasn’t able to take any responsibility. He was on his own in this case.
