Dog Ditched Walk for a 100-Mile Taxi Ride

Dogs love a good walk where they can stretch their paws, read other dogs’ messages via urine and edit the message with their own supply. While a good walk is sure to send the tail wagging, one dog took a laid-back approach by opting for a long taxi ride to take him back home.

Georgia Crewe, a 27-year-old dog owner, was on a routine walk with her three-year-old Ralph at Gresford Quarry in Wrexham, North Wales. Ralph, a mixed dog breed with a poodle and a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, had his own plans when he escaped to an adventure.

Crewe was panicking over her missing dog when she spent three hours searching for him. Ralph was in no danger as he was getting pampered in the comforts of a warm cab after running towards a nearby house. His story consists of a 100-mile taxi detour home.

Crewe explained that the driver was headed to Manchester Airport and took Ralph in for the extra company. A lost dog can be entertaining for passengers on an airport journey.

She said: “It turned out that he’d left the quarry and gone back to the road in the direction of home. A taxi had pulled up to pick up a family who were heading on their holidays. It was cold and Ralph just jumped in to the cab.”

Ralph went missing when Crewe was talking to another dog walker and the cab driver was happy to take him into his care after he observed no identification collar on him. The passengers got a companion to say goodbye to them as they carry on with their travels. They had no objections to sharing the back seat.

Once the airport drop-off was complete, Ralph was taken to the driver’s home in Mold, England, and he started looking for the pup’s owner online.

Crewe has been reunited with her dog and she will be taking precautionary measures to avoid another panic disappearance. She will be purchasing a geolocation tag, a flashing light and an identity disc so he can carry on with his exploring while being tracked.

Crewe said: “He’s my baby. He’s super intelligent and it’s really uncharacteristic for him to disappear. He got back home, had a big breakfast and has slept most of the day.”

Ralph was one step away from spontaneous international travel. Who knows, in the future, he may fly off to another country with that new geolocation tag.
