Dog Found 31 Days After Fleeing From Airport

Sometimes it can feel nearly impossible to find a dog once they’ve run away but it’s not always bad news. In a miraculous discovery, a foster dog that had escaped at an airport was safely recaptured a month later.

Adri Galler Lastra, the founder and emeritus director of Puerto Rico animal shelter Amigos de los Animales, said Sukie escaped from a crate at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport just after arriving from Puerto Rico in mid-September 2022.

The light brown Labrador Retriever mix ran away while an airport employee was removing her crate from the airplane. Galler Lastra announced on the shelter’s Facebook page that Suki had been found 31 days after she originally went missing.

The caption for their rescue video of Sukie read: “Sukie has been found after 31 days! Thank you to everyone who shared her story. For the volunteers who helped post flyers, give out food etc.”

To lure the dog to a crate, a trapper used a trap baited with food smells. It clearly worked as the animal was discovered inside the crate they baited.

Sukie is currently receiving medical attention and staying with a shelter volunteer until they can continue their journey to the animal’s new foster in upstate New York.
