When drinking, it’s important to not make any rash decisions because they could end up costing you. A woman was enjoying a beverage or two when she ended up getting so drunk that she forgot she bid on a house in an auction. Spoiler alert: she actually won the house too.
Sure, winning something you’ve bid on is great but the nearly $22,000 price tag isn’t so awesome. Luana Ribeira spent a pretty penny on a home located in the outskirts of Leeds in the United Kingdom. She had previously gone to view the house with a friend who was interested but Ribeira ended up putting in a bid sometime in the evening after consuming way too many drinks.
“I went to see a house with a friend as it was on auction, but my friend didn’t want it as it was in a rough area. I liked the property and thought it could be really lovely and a good investment,” Luana said.
She added: “So I went to the nightclub where I worked, stayed afterwards and got very drunk. I don’t actually have any recollection of doing this but apparently, I got home the next morning, called the estate agent, put a bid in and got the house. I woke up hungover and my boyfriend at the time was very annoyed and was giving me the silent treatment.”
Ribeira had gotten home at 8:30 a.m. after her night out when she insisted on calling the real estate agent to put in an offer on the house. When she woke up later she had a new hangover and a new home.
This spur-of-the-moment decision ended up being a successful one. Ribeira ended up keeping the house for a year and doubled the profit. She then bought another house, making around $22,000 profit on each of the three houses she flipped.
These profits allowed her to move to Portugal and become an author, a dream of hers. She also founded her own media company called Dauntless PR.
