Grab a Slice of White Crust Bread

Most people that love a slice of tasty white bread dislike the crust. In all honesty, how many people actually like the crust on any type of bread? A Japanese company is introducing a white crust milk bread that will hopefully prevent people from removing the crust while eating.

In Japan, the majority of milk bread sandwiches that are made have their crusts removed. Most enjoy the white part of Japanese shokupan milk bread and prefer to discard its brown crust. This perception can be dated back to when the crust was more difficult to chew through but times have changed.

Tokyo Chef Sugimoto and his team at the Imperial Hotel Co., Ltd. have spent around six months developing this innovative type of bread that essentially eliminates the need and want to remove the crust. This change is meant to cut down on food waste since the crust would no longer need to be discarded.

The secret behind this innovative white crust bread hasn’t been released by Imperial Hotel but they do mention that it’s baked slowly at a lower temperature, which results in the white color of the bread and a moister texture.

The Imperial Hotel has a long history of serving crustless milk bread sandwiches, dating back to 1890. Starting October 1, 2022, this new white crust bread will be served in the Imperial Hotel’s restaurants and at banquets. People can also purchase the bread from Gargantua Delicatessen.
