Live Ammunition Mistaken for Hamburgers

Having dinner and a show for an evening out can be an experience you’re likely never forget. Diners at a McDonald’s were caught by surprise when live ammunition was thrown on a grill inside the fast food restaurant.

Police were called to the Shelburne Road McDonald’s in South Burlington, Vermont, on a report of a disturbance involving a firearm. Instead of grilling burgers, an employee had reportedly removed ammunition from a handgun and threw three live rounds onto the grill, which inevitably exploded.

Authorities set up a perimeter when they arrived at the scene and negotiated with the male employee who, at that time, was still in possession of the handgun and additional ammunition. The employee eventually agreed to leave the gun inside and come out, where he was detained by officers.

No injuries were reported and all employees and guests were evacuated from the restaurant. The employee in question was taken to UVM Medical Center for further evaluation. His burger grilling days may be over for the time being.
