London House Listing Features a Mediaeval Execution Device

Buying a house can mark a new chapter in a person’s life. It’s ironic when a new beginning with a marketed home is contrasted with a tool that is used to end one’s life.

If there ever was a machine to lure in prospective homeowners, it has to be a guillotine, which is a device that was built to carry out executions by beheading. As for the machine parts, it has a tall, upright frame with an angled blade hanging at the top.

It served a purpose in the medieval period but what use can a modern homeowner in London find with this appliance? It’s taking up space and dusting away with no people to behead.

The guillotine is a bizarre piece of machinery to find in a London home, yet it made its way into a real estate listing, leaving people shocked to discover it in one of the bedrooms.

The two-bedroom property in Walthamstow is listed on Rightmove for $2,100 per month. The image of the residence was shared on Twitter with attention drawn to one of the bedrooms since it has a bedside accessory that people won’t find in Ikea.

The caption read: “Is that a guillotine next to the bed. Hey man you know I can’t sleep without my guillotine.”

Although the guillotine is a jarring sight to viewers, there is some comfort in knowing that this theme isn’t carried out throughout the residence. No one will actually be time-traveling with the set-up. The rooms come fully renovated, there are red and white tiles in the kitchen, along with a bathroom that’s fitting for the present time.

If people don’t want to wake up to a guillotine every morning, the house listing added that the home comes “furnished or unfurnished, landlord is flexible.” It’s perfectly okay to chuck the machine if it’s giving you nightmares.

One person replied: “I don’t need the guillotine! My head’s fallen off anyway just looking at the price!”

Another added: “Can’t be too careful nowadays, I always sleep with a guillotine under my pillow.”

A user plots a way to put the snores to rest: “An effective if harsh way to deal with a snoring partner!”

Sweet dreams to the new homeowner.
