Lost Cat Identified 9 Years Later in a New City

A cat lives nine lives so no need to entertain worst-case scenarios in your head after losing a furry feline. They will eventually show up, even if it takes nine years for the long-awaited reunion.

Susan Moore, a woman from Clovis, California, was shocked when she got a phone call from Idaho saying her lost cat had been found after nine years. Initially, she had trouble remembering the cat as it had been so long ago. However, she later realized it was her cat, Harriet, who disappeared nine years ago.

Her husband, Brian Ellison, believed the cat had been killed by a coyote. “I was very distraught about this cat going missing,” Moore said. “I was really bonded to this cat.”

Moore said she was shocked to receive a phone call from the Kootenai Humane Society in Hayden, Idaho which is more than 1,000 miles from Clovis. Harriet was found roaming the streets of Hayden and they were able to determine the cat belonged to Moore as the microchip allowed shelter workers to trace it back to Moore’s contact information.

The long journey left the cat owner baffled. “I wish she could talk because I’d like to know how the heck that cat got all the way to Idaho,” Moore said.

Moore had initially planned to have her brother, who lives in Idaho, pick up Harriet from the shelter but she was concerned the cat would not remember her and might have a new family missing their pet.

Maureen Wright, 75, a volunteer at the shelter, asked Moore for permission to bring Harriet to her home.

Wright said the cat is getting along well with her dogs and Moore has given her consent for Harriet to stay under her care. “She’s beautiful, regal, and just an absolute lover,” Wright said. “So she has a home with me for the rest of her life. She’s off the market.”
