Man Arrested Twice in One Day for Breaking Into Cars

When committing a crime, it’s best that you’re not being monitored for the same crime you’ve previously committed. A Chicago man was arrested twice in one day for breaking into cars while being monitored for breaking into cars.

Rodolfo Santillan started his day at around 10:20 a.m. when a 49-year-old man walked out of a store and noticed Santillan in his vehicle. The man, also a licensed firearm carrier, pulled out his gun and pointed it at Santillan at the same time that a Chicago police officer was passing by.

The police officer initially thought that the man with the firearm was robbing Santillan, which caused him to point his gun at the concealed carry holder. The man then placed his weapon on the ground and explained what happened.

Santillan was arrested and charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass to a vehicle. He walked out of the Austin (25th) District station at 4:37 p.m.

About two hours later, Chicago police arrested Santillan again. This time, two workers caught Santillan inside their work van. Police officers also found doorbell camera footage of the robber taking work tools from a nearby car.

While these two attempted burglaries occurred, Santillan was wearing an ankle monitor for two pending burglary cases from October and December 2021. Judge William Fahy held Santillan without bail for violating bond in his pending cases. Santillan was also ordered to pay a $7,500 bail deposit on the new charges.
