Sodium is usually high in fast-food restaurant menu items but what would you do if salt was the only thing on the table?
Thomas Shannon stopped at McDonald’s on his way to the airport; he placed an order for a double sausage, egg McMuffin meal and a latte from Skelmersdale McDonald’s. His eyes were wide open when he peeked into the brown bag to discover 315 packets of salt instead of his breakfast food items.
In a viral tweet, he explained: “Early one this morning, thought I’d get a little maccies by the way of sustenance. Imagine my joy, upon joining the M58 and setting off upon my way, to find that instead of a Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin I had instead been furnished with a bag of salt. What a treat.” [sic]
“I’m still starving now, I think fruit and fibre may be the breakfast of choice from now on,” Shannon said. “I guess the salt was for the customers, but mistakes happen – especially as we’re all tired at 6:30 am.
“About 20 minutes after leaving, I checked the order and was left in pure confusion. I absolutely didn’t expect to feel salt sachets when I reached in.”
This early bird was able to laugh at the situation without losing his temper, and he went the extra mile by individually counting all 315 packets.
Another user said: “I’d have actual tears.” Shannon replied: “I was laughing my head off cos I didn’t know what else to do. You know the way you’re reaching for it cos you need to look at where you’re going, my head was blown apart when I realized it was sachets.” [sic]
Another person added: “Great stuff – stuff like this brings a little bit of joy to the day mate.”
Shannon concluded: “I always post things I find funny on social media, as mad things are always happening to me. I’d order there again, though maybe this is a message from now on to stop.”
If our experience is determined more by our reaction than the event itself, this customer was wise in reacting in a manner that wasn’t salty.
