Monkey Pulls Off Prank 911 Call

Making fake 911 calls is not tolerated by officers of the law. The primate suspect in this story turned out to be a monkey looking to cause some confusion.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Zoo to You near Paso Robles, California. The call was disconnected but dispatchers tried to call and text the number back. When they received no response, deputies were sent to the scene to investigate. After a quick inspection, officers discovered no employees had made the call.

That could only lead to one suspect. One of the only other mammals on the planet that have opposable thumbs is monkeys. It was determined that a Capuchin monkey named Route had picked up the zoo’s cellphone, which was in a golf cart employees used to move around the area.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office posted about the monkey business on Facebook. “We’re told Capuchin monkeys are very inquisitive and will grab anything and everything and just start pushing buttons. And that’s what Route did… just so happened it was in the right combination of numbers to call us,” the sheriff’s office said.

Hopefully, this was the last of Route’s monkeying around.
