Pay for Insults at This Mean-Spirited Diner

Come on, filthy, pay up! In response to this demand at the restaurant, would you pull out the wallet to pay or splash the ice water in the waiter’s face?

Karen’s Diner is an Australian chain of theme restaurants. The restaurant advertises a deliberately unpleasant dining experience, and staff are instructed to insult customers throughout their meal. Compliments are not a thing at this restaurant — guests are expected to take the insults with a stride as they help to build tough skin.

Can the customers take the heat? Unfortunately, not all of them are capable of shrugging off the rude remarks. A hurt woman broke out into tears by the insults at Karen’s Diner for her red hair. The lady said that staff called her a “filthy ranga,” which is a derogatory term for people with red hair.

For this particular restaurant theme, the goal might be to make the customers weep as the workers rub salt on their insecurities. There was a clear warning on behalf of the restaurant chain: “Warning, rude language is used across our venues. We are not Disneyland. We strongly recommend minors to not attend past 6 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. on weekends.”

The woman posted about her time at the restaurant on TikTok. She was still hoping for a Disneyland experience as she shames the restaurant for her disappointing visit. The Australian woman said, “I love roleplay, improv, acting, all of that stuff so I was so excited. But it was really horrible. They just literally bullied me about my hair.”

She wrapped up the video by saying that she wouldn’t recommend anyone go to the diner unless they wanted to “pay to be bullied.”

The other users had mixed reactions to her concerns. A user said: “Sounds like people can’t take a joke. Chill it’s not serious.”

A more comforting user wrote: “I’m so sorry that happened to you. That’s not okay. I’m so glad your sister stuck up for you. Bullying is just lazy, Karen’s meant to be a vibe.”

Self-love might include exploring different dining options. A commentator wrote: “I’ve never wanted to go because I have body image issue, anxiety and I need to inject insulin to eat. Too many things to pick on that I’d rather never.”

Leaving the restaurant without paying might be the ultimate revenge. It is a tried and tested method: “I have a speech impediment and they called me the r-word. I left without paying.”
