Pennsylvania Burglar Steals 2,000,000,000,000,000 in Currency

While trillions of dollars seems like a lot, it’s not when it’s in Zimbabwean currency. A suspect in Pennsylvania made off with a 16-figure haul after burglarizing a residence but ended up not stealing as much as they expected.

Investigators working on the case said that a home in Bedford, Pennsylvania, was broken into on February 6, 2024, by “an unknown individual.” The suspect managed to walk away with several pieces of jewelry, silver dollars worth $20, and 2,000,000,000,000,000 in Zimbabwean currency.

According to police, “twenty Zimbabwe 100 trillion dollar bills” were taken by the burglar. In the original report, the stolen currency was valued at being worth $1 million. However, this wasn’t the case.

The Zimbabwe bills were issued during a period of hyperinflation and are essentially worthless as currency. Instead, they are sold as a numismatic oddity for around $10 apiece. The burglar also fled with $30 in loose change.
