Roomba Robotic Vacuum Escapes Nail Salon

A robot can have a mind of its own and a Roomba autonomous vacuum left the ladies with the pretty nails at A.J. Nails & Spa to go on a solo adventure. St. Clair Shores business owner Jenny Nguyen opened the front door of her business and she didn’t think much of it until the vacuum managed to sneak out of the building.

“We opened the door and I realized later the vacuum was missing,” said Nguyen. “I thought it must have just gone out the front door.”

Nguyen’s friend Lynsie Melton shared the missing vacuum story online and requested local residents to reach out with any odd vacuum sightings.

A resident ended up spotting the vacuum near 9 Mack Drive and Doremus Street after scrolling past the post. She was able to return it to the small business owners.

While the ladies were dealing with dirt and nail clippings on the salon floors, the robot wandered off and cleaned the outdoors. They had to fix the vacuum to get it back into working condition since it took a hit from cleaning areas it wasn’t designed to tidy up.

“Hopefully, it will be okay and the story has a happy ending,” Nguyen said.

“It was covered in dirt with wood chips and twigs falling out of it so I towel-dried it and left it in my basement overnight with two dehumidifiers,” Melton said. “At first it was spitting dirt and wood chips everywhere so it had to be cleaned out and then it was good as new!”

The Roomba is back on duty again until someone decides to get some fresh air.
