SeaPods Go Sideways

Searching for more environmentally friendly ways to live is the future of the planet. A company looking to make a splash has created new homes that are meant to be perched on Panama’s Caribbean coast but the initial launch left more to be desired.

The SeaPod Eco prototypes by developer Ocean Builders are futuristic luxury model homes. The unveiling of the sleek white design completed tanked when the prototype sitting above the water on a column slumped onto an adjacent dock. No one was injured and the cause is being investigated.

Ocean Builders said in a statement that the homes began to “destabilize” at the end of the launch event. So much for being able to withstand ocean waves. Obviously, these are still prototypes but it’s pretty clear that homeowners aren’t going to want their luxury houses slipping into the ocean.

The homes that look a lot like spaceships are meant to sit well above the water and start at a cool $295,000. The pods feature expansive views via a row of windows, along with many other luxury additions. The developers are marketing the homes as eco-friendly and cost-effective and are looking at 2023 for availability.
